Mabel - horrible case of neglect-donations needed!

Mabel.revised.jpg

Mabel came to the sanctuary at the end of July when we received a plea to take in a severely emaciated senior Mastiff.   We were told that no other rescue could take her as they couldn't provide lifelong care for a senior.

We agreed to take in the dog who was simply known as 'Old Bones'.  Poor Mabel was one of the worst cases of neglect we have seen.  Sadly, she was used as a breeding machine.  She is blind due to untreated cataracts, deaf from untreated ear infections, arthritic, has no teeth and extremely emaciated.

We took Mabel to see Dr. Peterson right away.  After he got done shaking his head in disgust, he gave her a thorough exam.  The lump on her nose is a sinus tumor that unfortunately already spread to her intestines.  He sent her home on steroids along with some other medication and said try to get her to eat.

Mabel is so very happy at PIGS.  Her tail never stops wagging!  She is eating well and enjoying her life.  We'll keep Mabel here as long as she has quality to her life.  Right now, she is not in any pain or discomfort.

Mabel enjoys spending her days with the humans at the sanctuary as well as the two other senior dogs who live in the canine cancer unit.  Mabel is in with George and Zeus, both of who also have cancer.

Mabel is just one of the very many special needs animals who reside at PIGS who all have special needs and requirements!

Please consider donating towards the long-term care of our senior animals so we can continue to provide them with the medications and special dietary foods they require.
